1. Measure the actual layout path first
Use a tape measure to calculate the full route length where the neon light will be installed, including all curves, corners, text outlines and bent parts. Do not only measure straight distances, as bends will add extra length consumption.
2. Reserve extra length for wiring and margin
Add 0.3–1 meter of spare length on the basis of the measured total length:
- Small indoor signs / home decoration: reserve 0.3–0.5 m
- Large outdoor engineering projects / long contour lighting: reserve 0.8–1 m
The extra part is used for wiring connections, installation errors and later replacement maintenance.
3. Follow the fixed cutting unit of neon strips
Silicone neon flex has pre-marked fixed cutting points (usually every 2.5cm, 5cm or 10cm). The ordered length must match the multiple of the cutting unit. You cannot cut arbitrarily at any position, otherwise the lamp section will not light up.
Check the cutting interval of your model before confirming the order length.
4. Distinguish between single whole strip and segmented splicing
- If you need a continuous long light effect without obvious joints: order one complete whole strip of the total required length (within the factory’s maximum production length limit).
- For discontinuous patterns, separate characters or split layout paths: split into multiple independent neon strips according to each segment’s measured length, and match power supplies separately.
5. Match the maximum load length of power supply
Different voltage neon lights have different maximum single driving lengths:
- DC12V silicone neon: usually the maximum single usable length is 5–10 meters
- DC24V silicone neon: can support 10–20 meters in one single strip
If your required length exceeds the maximum load, split into multiple sections and equip an independent power adapter for each segment to avoid dim light at the tail.
6. Confirm factory standard roll lengths
Factory conventional stock rolls are commonly 5m, 10m, 20m, 50m. If your demanded length is a non-standard size, inform the factory in advance for customized cutting production; bulk stock rolls cannot be arbitrarily shortened on site.
